Dave grew up in Maine and has always appreciated the natural beauty of the state. Dave enjoys creating and designing, from renovating his home, to creating custom furniture, to his job as a technical designer for a trade show exhibitry company. Dave has always had a knack for forming beautiful things from not much.
In 2020, trade shows ceased and Dave was let go from his technical designer job. This unexpected change allowed the opportunity for Dave to pursue something new, wood turning. Dave bought a lathe and taught himself wood turning. He loves the process of taking a rough piece of wood and watching it become a beautiful piece, allowing the wood to show him what it will be.
While Dave is back in the office part-time as a technical designer, he also spends time in his shop turning old pieces of wood into new pieces of usable art. Dave’s appreciation of the wood and of the history contained within it, shows in the way he highlights each piece’s distinct qualities through the way they are turned.
“In a state where we are blessed with such an abundance of trees, we appreciate them and understand their value in our lives and to the environment. Trees provide us with so much. They stand tall, sometimes through generations of Mainers. Being able to preserve and showcase their beauty is a honor. Just because a tree falls does not mean it has to be it’s end. The old can become new again.” ~Dave
